The first Luftwaffe unit to arrive in North Africa was JG 27, it was to become one of its most famous. Already honed by fighting in France and during the Battle of Britain, JG 27 was experienced and tough opposition for the RAF. The Desert was an inhospitable place with little hope of survival if shot down.

Lead by Eduard Neumann, a superb leader who employed aggressive tactics. Its premier pilot Hans-Joachim Marseille in a short but superb career scored over 150 victories, more than any other pilot against the RAF.

The print is signed by Eduard Neumann, Franz Elles, Friedrich Korner and Fritz Keller JG 27 Pilots.
