Hellcat Fury illustrates F6F Hellcats of VF6 attacking the Truk atoll the main Japanese base in the South Pacific, with major anchorages and four heavily defended airfields. Truk was thought to be almost impregnable. On the 16th and 17th of February 1944 Truk was attacked by the carrier group Task Force 58 which destroyed an estimated 275 aircraft and sank 2000,000 tons of shipping.
Hellcats pound the Atoll staffing with guns blazing, in the forefront is a F6F-3 flown by Alex Vraciu who was to become one of the highest scoring Naval fighter Aces with 19 victories flying Hellcats with VF-6.
The War in the Pacific Edition is signed by eight USN Fighter Aces, Alex Vraciu, "Bill" Hardy, "Mac" McWhorter 'Ted" Crosby, "Buck" Dungan, James Duffy, John Strane and Ed Wendorf. This edition also includes a companion print "Pacific Pirates" depicting an F4U Corsair signed by Archie Donahue who flew the Hellcats and Corsairs achieving 14 victories.
The Portfolio Proof additionally includes a second companion print "Dauntless Over the Yorktown" which is signed by Jim Sweet, Stan Vejtasa and Bruce Porter.
