With success in the Polish and French Blitzkrieg the German High Command viewed the Stuka as an outstanding weapon to succeed long range artillery. It created devastation wherever it was deployed, but vulnerable where air superiority was not gained as in the Battle of Britain.

Its ability to make a vertical dive and deliver bombs with great accuracy made it feared, this was accentuated by its howling siren actuated during diving.

The print is signed by four Stuka pilots with over 3,000 combat missions between them, Helmut Fickel, Franz Kieslich, Kurt Kuhlmey and Gerhard Studemann.
