Valliant Response illustrates a Spitfire of 54 Squadron meeting an Me109 head on as it tries to engage the more vulnerable Me110's. The Zerstorer or Heavy Fighter Goring believed would be the Luftwaffe's premier fighter. In the Battle of Britain, it was no match for agile single engined fighters.
Initially used for bomber escort it was forced to fly slowly, with poor acceleration it was an easy target for RAF fighters. The Luftwaffe commenced the Battle of Britain with 237 serviceable Me110's during the Battle they lost a staggering 223.
