Incoming Luftwaffe bombers escorted by fighters have been seen approaching the Kent coast. Response to the Call shows two Mk I Hurricanes scrambling from their front-line airfield to meet the threat during the Battle of Britain.

Squadrons were during this period scrambles four to five times a day, putting a terrible strain on pilots, their planes and ground crews.
