The famous Tuskegee Airmen trained near Tuskegee in Alabama. Facing continued racial pushback, they learn their trade in Italy during 1943 attacking ground targets in a fighter bomber role.

In July 1944 the 99th, 100, 301 and 302 squadrons formed the 332 Fighter Group "The Tuskegee Airmen" The USAAF first all-black fighter unit all trained at Tuskegee and flying P-51 Mustangs their tails and propellers painted bright red.

The Tuskegee airman specialized on bomber protection and uniquely never lost a bomber to enemy fighters, an incredible feat in the heat of battle. Their earned high respect from the bomber crews for the dedication to protecting them. During more than 15,000 sorties their pilots won over 1000 medals for gallantry.

The print is signed by five of the Tuskegee airmen, Charles McGee, Elbert Hudson, Arthur Sherman, Lowell Steward and Leon Walden.
