The P-61 "Black Widow" was the first aircraft designed from inception as a Night Fighter. With onboard radar it was a formidable Night Fighter and with great firepower a very effective ground attack plane. The print shows Colonel. O.B Johnson shooting down an Fw190 having stalked it with radar as the sun set.
Colonel Johnson led the 422nd Night Fighter Squadron, the leading P-61 Squadron in Europe. They destroyed 43 aircraft in the air and hundreds of vehicles on the ground in a ground attack mode utilizing the multiple forward cannons.
The print is signed by three 422nd P-61 Aces and Colonel Johnson who assumed command at the incredible age of 23.
