Early Morning Arrival by Robert Taylor
Lancaster V-RA on final approach to RAF Colerne early in the morning of June 6th 1944 (D-Day) after bombing heavy coastal guns at Arromanches from low altitude. After raids in quick succession against bridges and marshalling yards in Normandy on the night of June 12th Lancaster V-RA was shot down by Ju88 night fighter.
Pilot officer of V-RA, Andrew Mynarski sacrificed his own life to save his rear gunner, six of the crew survived and Andrew was awarded the VC posthumously for his conspicuous act of valor and sacrifice.
The print is signed by a total of three VC holders, Norman Jackson, Rod Learoyd and Bill Reid and the six surviving crew of Lancaster V-RA, A de Breyne, J. Kelly, P. Brophy, R. Vigor, J. Friday and A. Bodie.
