A Sunderland of RAF 230 Squadron the first to be equipped with Sunderland's in Singapore in 1938. The Sunderland had a range close to 3,000 miles. Following the fall of Singapore it was used in the Pacific theater to attack enemy shipping in the Bay of Bengal and supply Pacific Islands.

In the European theater Sunderland's were used extensively in an anti-submarine roll becoming more and more successful as onboard radar detection and depth charge technology grew.

The print is signed by three pilots who flew with 230 Squadron against the Japanese, William "Hal" Hallisey, Graham Stevens and Willaim 'Eddie" Bardgett.
