From July 1942 until the end of the war in Europe three years of continues combat, the USAAF overcame the worst odds gaining air superiority over Europe. This print was issued to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Mighty Eighth in Europe.
Mighty Eighth Coming Home illustrates a B-17’s of the Mighty Eighth badly shot up returning home from a mission deep into German. The damaged B-17 is falling behind its group but is joined by three B-24's and a lone Mustang for the journey across the North Sea. In a radiant sunset the group approaches the coast of Belgium.
The print is signed by six highly decorated Mighty Eighth B-17 pilots Bob Landry, William Lawley, Edward Michael, Robert Morgan, Cliff Peterson and Albert Shower.
The Publishers Proof edition comes with a rare companion print one of fifty, Foul Weather Mission. The print depicts a B-26 Marauder encountering heavy weather while on a critical mission to attack V-1 rocket sites in the Pas de Calais.
