Early morning 14 October 1943, in USAAF briefing rooms throughout Southern England the words nobody wanted to hear "It's Schweinfurt Again" This date was to become known as "Black Thursday"

A 920 mile flight, nearly half of it without fighter cover. Once the P-47 fighters reached their range and turned for home, the B-17 were hit by upwards of 400 Luftwaffe fighters. The USAAF 1st Division alone lost 60, B-17 and 600 crew.

The Commemorative Proof Edition is signed by Twenty Four pilots and crew who took part in the Schweinfurt mission. The main print is accompanied by a pencil companion print "Black Thursday" which is signed by a Luftwaffe pilot Adolf Denz who flew an Me110 in defense of Schweinfurt.
