On 7th August 1942, exactly eight months from Pearl Harbor in the first move in the Pacific, the first Marine Division went ashore on Guadalcanal. The immediate objective was to capture Henderson Field.
A Japanese Zero evades a Marine F4F Wildcat high over Henderson Field at Guadalcanal. After capturing the field, the Marines flew in Wildcat and Dauntless aircraft to form the Cactus Airforce which held the field despite constant Japanese attacks.
This print has some great Pacific War aces signatures, it is signed by two top scoring Marine aces, Joe Foss and Marion Carl and two famous Japanese Navy Zero pilots Saburo Sakai and Shiro Ishikawa.
