Spitfire mark Mk 1X in D Day invasion colors landing at the first established RAF Airfield on D Day plus 4. Johnnie Johnson’s 144 Canadian Wing was the first Allied Fighter Group to operate on French soil following D-Day. The temporary airstrip at St. Croix-Sur-Mer was constructed in three days by RAF ground crews and was operational on D-Day plus 4.

The print shows the Spitfire Mk 1X with their distinct invasion recognition stripes, roaring off from the airstrip on a sweep through Normandy in support of the invasion. This marked the beginning of the RAF's move through France and onto the Rhine.

The print is signed by Canadian Johnnie Johnson the leading scoring RAF Ace and two other distinguished highly decorated Canadian Aces, Larry Robillard and Danny Browne.
